Information for recreational sailors

• Offshore construction work for the 18-kilometer-long Fehmarnbelt Tunnel is carried out primarily in two work zones which are marked with buoys equipped with AIS.
• These zones are restricted areas, accessible only to work vessels!
• For your own safety, you should keep a safe distance and navigate around the cordoned-off areas. Hidden dangers such as anchors, anchor chains, or steel pipes may be present underwater within the restricted zones, even if you cannot see them.
• Increased traffic from work vessels can also be expected outside the work zones.
• The work zones are marked with yellow buoys. Some of the buoys are equipped with AIS. Their current positions are communicated through maritime authorities’ nautical publications (e.g., Notices to Mariners and VTS).
• In addition to the marked restricted areas at sea, in some periods there are coastal marked restricted zones around the construction sites at Fehmarn and Lolland.
• All vessels are encouraged to ensure their nautical charts are up to date when passing through the area. 
• When entering the VTS area, you can contact "Fehmarnbelt Traffic" on VHF channel 68 to request current information regarding the work zones.
