Safety event on Northern Europe’s largest construction site

A hand or finger injury can happen in a split second and have a serious impact, but we can take safety precautions to prevent it.

This was the key message at today’s safety event, which took place at Northern Europe’s largest construction site at the Marine Workshop. The event is part of our joint safety campaign with the contractor Femern Link Contractors (FLC) focusing on hand and finger safety and increasing the awareness.

The topic is relevant as numbers show that around half of all accidents on site involve hands and fingers. Workers on site are daily exposed to hazards such as crushing, rotating parts, cutting, corrosive materials.

Your hands are your most used tool as 90 % of your daily activities involves using your hands.

A focus area for top management
Around 75 workers from FLC plus members from FLC & Femern top management watched and listened as FLC HSWE manager, Geert Wouters, carried out a demonstration of various hand-held tools, safe ways of using them in the daily work and potential risks.

“We know that a serious injury can be life-changing – that’s why we want to remind everyone on site to be aware and use the right tools and equipment in the correct manner. FLC demonstrated a high level of professionalism sharing the tips about safety precautions with all of us.

I attend and support these safety events because we want to maintain the focus on building a strong safety culture on the project.” says Jens Ole Kaslund, Technical Director on the Fehmarnbelt project.
