Not only is the construction site for the Fehmarnbelt tunnel growing and changing constantly, Sund & Bælt is also continuously expanding its range of information. The aim is to inform people in a variety of ways and through various channels about the construction of the world's longest immersed tunnel. The latest addition to this offering is a viewing platform: located directly next to the construction site and built from modular 40-foot shipping containers, this new information point features a terrace where visitors can observe the ongoing construction work closely from a height of six metres.
On clear days, the view even extends to the tunnel element factory at Rødbyhavn on the Danish side. Two pairs of binoculars provide a better view, while information boards clearly explain the construction of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel. The experience is rounded off by information films shown on a screen. The containers are powered by a photovoltaic system, enabling environmentally friendly operation.
24/7 access to the viewing platform
Access to the viewing platform is free of charge and available around the clock. A large car park offers plenty of space for cars, coaches and bicycles. The viewing terrace is accessible via stairs.
“With the new viewing platform, we are creating a great opportunity to experience the construction work on the Fehmarnbelt tunnel up close without entering the construction site,” says Lars Friis Cornett, Director of Femern A/S in Germany. “It complements our existing Infocentre in Burg on Fehmarn, which will continue to be the primary hub for comprehensive information about the project. We are delighted to be able to offer people even more insight into the construction of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel with this new attraction.”
Spectacular viewing platform on the Danish side
Anyone interested can also observe the construction work in Danish: since March 2025, the 217-metre-long viewing platform “Pilen” (Danish for ’The Arrow") in the immediate vicinity of the Danish tunnel construction site is open to the public. Those who want to delve even deeper into the project can visit the tunnel exhibition in Rødbyhavn. There, interactive information, models, and films provide insights into the construction project from various perspectives.
