The first two elements for the Fehmarnbelt tunnel have now left the dry dock and have been moved into the large basins in front of the tunnel factory at Rødbyhavn.
The process was carried out following several weeks of extensive testing, involving water filling in the dry dock and the closure of the watertight gate in front of the factory.
More elements are expected to be pulled into the basins in the near future where they will remain until the main contractor, Femern Link Contractors (FLC), is ready to carry out the final work on them.
The first element will then be prepared for immersion. This will involve attaching two special pontoons to the ends of the element and adding more ballast concrete to weigh it down.
So far, a total of seven standard elements have now been cast as well as two special elements with a basement for the tunnel’s technical equipment. In total, 89 elements will be produced.
