Femern A/S submits German plan approval documents

10-18-13

Femern A/S has officially handed in its overall application for approval of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link in Germany. On Friday, 18 October 2013, CEO Claus F. Baunkjær and director of planning, Claus Dynesen, submitted the entire documentation in Kiel to the German plan approval authority, the State Company for Road Construction and Transport of Schleswig-Holstein, in the presence of Reinhard Meyer, Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Employment, Transport and Technology.

CEO of Femern A/S, Claus F. Baunkjær highlights the significance of the application: “This is a major achievement and a very important day for our project. I am glad that we can now submit the approval documents for the Fehmarnbelt tunnel to the plan approval authority. After the publication of the Danish Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in June, and the official start of the international tender phase in September, this is the third major milestone our company has reached this year.

The plan approval documents have been compiled with the contribution of hundreds of experts who have, to an exceptional extent even for large projects, conducted the technical and environmental investigations. On this basis we can document in detail the planned implementation of the project.

I want to thank the German ministries and agencies with whom we have worked together in a very close and trustful manner during the entire process.”

Femern A/S has prepared the documents together with the LBV’s branch office in Lübeck who is responsible for the tunnel’s road section that runs on Germany territory.

The Fehmarnbelt tunnel is scheduled to open at the end of 2021.
