Public meeting on the Fehmarn tunnel’s environmental impact draws full house08-29-13
On 29 August, over 200 people filled Lalandia’s sports hall in Rødbyhavn as the Ministry of Transport and Femern A/S had convened a public meeting on the tunnel project’s impact on the environment, people and society.
The public meeting was part of the 12 week long consultation period for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt. At the meeting, local residents, companies, NGOs etc. had the opportunity to ask questions and comment on the EIA and its results. Many local residents were naturally interested in the project’s impact on Rødbyhavn in terms of noise, traffic, etc.
The consultation period – including the public meeting – is an important and necessary element in Femern A/S’ preparatory work. It gives the company the opportunity to provide clarification on issues concerning the project’s design as well as the opportunity to listen to people’s ideas and comments on the project that Femern A/S has presented. All parties are, therefore, involved in the planning of the project. The responses to questions and comments will be incorporated in the project’s next phase when a proposal for a Construction Act for the tunnel construction will be drawn up.
